3) In educational setting, discuss how technology enhances the teaching and learning environment. What do the viewpoints of Dewey....

Over time the learner has been the explorer of knowledge. In the 21st century challenges and demands are expanding and changing again. The diversity of needs in community compelled the schools to devise new ways(ex.using technology) to prepare children effectively for the challenges of the 21st century.
Today, all most people including children can use and used to technology such as computer, digital camera, camcoder and so on. In dance part, many choreographers and dance educators have investigated methods for implementing computer technology. In view of these perspective, technology presents new methods for creating, instructing, and assessing dance as well as opportunitiesto expand dance resources and redefine the learning process.

According to Dewey, neither traditional nor progressive education alone is enough, a key element must be explored, the human experience. To effectively educate and develop a plan by subject matter, an educator must understand that each experience a student has will influence his/her future for the better or for worse. A key element that should work hand-in-hand with incorporating both traditional and progressive learning is the student's past experiences, both positive and negative. A student's past experience will have an effect on their present experience which in turn will determine their future contribution and impact to society.
Moreover through John Dewey, I felt that I will have to learn and study more for my future students and me and more deeply thought about what is the role of teacher? For Dewey, education is life itself. Subject matter is also everything that a learner has experienced while he lives, of which academic knowledge is located in its center. Dewey thought that education of subject matter should have relation to human total experience.

Base on those Dewey's theory and technology enhances, the classroom better prepare students for their future as contributors to society; utilizing a student's past and present experiences including technology experiences to help tailor the appropriate lessons and tools.

For Example lesson;
through Youtube video clip teachers can using dance resources that can be yoga, hiphop dance, tap dance... etc. for students and also studetns can learn various dances by themselves.

2) Discuss some ways that you can use your art to enhance students acquiring English literacy skills.

First of all, besides the obvious use of dance as a tool for conveying a story, dance can reinforce the love of words. The words in song, story and every conversations can lift students from the ordinasy to the extraordinary. Students love to be read to inspiring their imagination to believe the possibilities.

Through dance and literacy that students are able to master their own learning experiences through engaging in meaningful, sequential and problem-solving relationships witch promote interaction with peers, community and environment. The dance and literacy curriculum for reading, writing, listening, and speaking students are able to more easily understand English especially immigrant students and dance class to improve reading skills as well as enhance kinetic knowledge through text. And also students will learn gathering and sharing information, persuading others, expressing and understanding ideas, coordinating activities with others and selecting and critically analyzing messages throughout dance and literacy.

Here is an example simple lesson of dance and literacy.

-Action Words-
Ask for a few examples of fo action words( jump, leap, twist, run, swing, hop..). And explain that they will choreography a dance based on action words.

Through this lesson students will be able to indentify verbs and choreography a dance based on action words.

Blue Team with Multiculturalism

When Blue Team who are Gregory and SeungEun meet and discuss about idea for our subject, some ideas which are multicultural and interdiciplinary subject come up. And after that through discussion finally we decide subject as multiculturalism. We collect video, document and music about teaching multiculturalism.

In that point, I want to say about multiculture. Before I came NewYork I naver have been thought deeply about multiculture. Because Korea is a racially homogeneous nation and when I grow up we didn't much open mind foreigner especally the inside. However These days many Korean students learning different languages and treveling many country. So, They need to learn multiculture. New York has many immigrant people so, educationally they also need to learn multiculture. During studying Dance Education course in NYU, I learn what is multiculturalisn, why we learn that and why we teach that to students. So, Through arts of multiculturalism, students of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds can better understand themselves and each other and a critical aspect of social stability.

Go back to blue team project process, I really enjoy making our website. The personal assignments that make homepage, music, images, animation, video and music concrete..etc. are little difficult and hard, however making blue team website is fun time. And I made it fater than others.^^; I don't know why.
Through kinds of our website as technology learning way, I hope that studetns can easily learn different culture dance, music, art and history instead real trevel.

Technology and media in the Arts

“The games can be understood as performances based on the presence of a live, performing body that acts and enacts through a computer-generated image, yet also serves as spectator/audience for the action.” “Navigating the space of the game, the real body performs through as assumed alias, and in doing so, can adopt aspects of that character, stretching into the surrogated character’s game space, while remaining paradoxically detached, alienated.” (Burrill, 2005) I never think that video games have objective of education. Video game just having fun and get rid of stress by playing. Even though I think video game is bad for children. It is that I make a mistake out of ignorance. After read articles I have a way of turning around.

“Dance games, a popular and fascinating new genre of interactive game, offer an example of an activity that is a hybridization of several preexisting cultural forms…They also feature structures that are closed, flat, or open, as well as matrices of activity that cross the boundaries between games, play, and performance.”(Burrill, 2005) Using these kinds of machine, young people or adults improve creative movement and improvisation skills. If someone develops video game with Laban motif symbol that it is good idea for children. The Laban “Motif symbols were developed from the basic Labanotation symbols. Labanotation was evolved to record specific movement patterns therefore the symbols are definitive. The direction symbols, for instance, describe specific points around the body. However more open, general movement descriptions were needed, so many of these symbols had to be modified for Motif Notation. In the initial exploration of movement, there is a need to provide freedom, to give the options of ‘any direction’ or ‘any level’. Through these, the student can explore the flexibility in use of directions and the expressiveness each provides. In Motif, to experience the range of possibilities in this category, statements such as ‘any form of extension’, ‘any degree of extension’ is needed.” (Language of dance centre) It outcomes that students will develop, know and understand the basic movement concepts and skills which serve as creating dance and performing with Laban motif symbols.

Why Dance Curriculum in Korea?

In Korea, students who have majored in dance education will automatically be given a license to teach in physical education upon their completion of the teaching requirement. Korea doesn't have the system of licensing a dance teacher certification. Even though the general course works in elementary and middle schools include music and fine arts, dance is not included. In facing this situation, people in the field of dance education have started suggesting the Ministry of Education to incorporate dance education as a part of general course works in Korean elementary and middle schools. As a result, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism started applying the dance instructor dispatch program to the schools that requested for the dance education. This program started in the year 2005 for the first time when only 100 schools requested for it. The number was increased to 150 schools in 2006 and then 328 schools in 2007. Each year, apparently more and more schools want this program. In view of this rising demand, I believe that a more systematic curriculum is necessary for the future and therefore I would like to specialize in teaching dance curriculum and play an important role in the future in effectively developing dance curriculum.

My curriculum that I want to teaching is to be creativity that based on my experience when I grow up. In studio, I learned ballet or another dance as training way such as a strict command style. Also, in my arts middle, high school and college, I trained the dance technique. This way is great way to get professional dancer. However, this teaching way is difficult to made creativity thinking skill. For my future students, I want to provide a knowledge base concerning aesthetics, agency, creativity, lived experience, learning through the body not only technique.

Blue Team Project Homepage's opening music

Kim Duk Soo - The 50th Anniversary of Kim Duk Soo's Debut : On The Road

One of the main reasons for his success is his belief that beating the rhythm will lead him to the Way, and what he has gained from that experience has been a source for the growth of the percussionist group, SamulNori, which he formed in 1978. SamulNori is credited for bringing the music from a rural folk genre to the contemporary stage. The group was established in February 1978 by janggu player and former Namsadang star performer Kim Duk Soo.

His most important goals have always been to create new music through the development of traditional Korean percussion music by research, as well as refining its methodology and pedagogy, and the training of the next generation of musicians.

Switch - try outs

I like this video clip. There is simple modern dance movements and the proper use of technology that for easy to understand performance.
Enjoy~

MorrisonDance: Dance & Technology

The Morrisondance was maintained on a grassroots level that allowed work with some of the most fascinating artists in the area in order to create innovative performances involving technology, nature, and unusual spaces.
With technology that's innovative and creative choreography. However, personally, sometimes when over using technology things I can' t concentrate upon dance and the performance meaning.

NDEO Conference

The Last week from Thursday and Saturday, I came to National Dance Education Oranigation's conference in NEW YORK! The first day, at that my situation, I still have a summer class that the last day of Tech class. So, I couldn't focus on the conference until Friday.
There are various subject's presentation in paper, movement and workshop.

In conference I definitely can see the technology power. The most of presenter used power point, vim project and youtube video clip in the power point. And also many technology subject presented in there such as Integrating video technology into the dance technique curriculum, Getting jiggy with it:Using technology in the dance class, Video as a tool to inform and create choreographic studies, Promoting best practice with technology resources in teaching dance performances and so on. Unfortunately, I can't participated in that subject.

However, with technology subject,I participated in 'Using video clips to help students understand dance in a deeper way' workshop. This workshop provided the participants with strategies that will help students observe, describe, compare, and think about dance and also apply certain dance skills.
Sometimes there is not enough time or resources to delve into a complete dance or dance form in depth. So, I think use short video clips can be successfully used to help students develop a knowledge of dance.
